Hotelier Ian Schrager of Morgans Hotel Group and designer Philippe Starck have reinvented this venerable hotel into a glamorous, cutting-edge hotel, replete with surrealist art and bold patterns and textures. The hotel attracts a wide range of international travelers, from business execs to glamorous globetrotters, jet-setting families to fashion designers.

Almost a century old, this reconceived Italian Renaissance-style hotel highlights an intriguing and eclectic collection of furniture by American and European artists, specially commissioned digital paintings, an oversized fireplace with a cast-bronze sculpture, a rooftop terrace and conservatory, and the legendary Redwood Room bar.

With several of San Francisco's most prominent theaters just over a block away, taking in a show is almost a must. The TIX booth on Stockton and Geary streets, 2 blocks from the hotel, sells half-price, day-of-performance tickets for shows ranging from Broadway musicals to small, local productions.
